2011-12 AYAC Basketball Program FAQsWhat if different this season with AYAC Basketball? Home games will be played at The Sphere (formerly SportsPlus) due to the loss of access to the West Clermont Schools facilities. Family admission passes will be provided as part of the registration fees home games at the Sphere. There may still be admission fees at away games. The Sphere passes will not be good for away games. Practices will be in local churches and other nearby facilities. If the levy passes in November we will investigate the possibility of practicing and playing games in West Clermont facilities in Jan 2012. Rates were increased to cover the cost of facility use and lost income from admission and concession at home games. Fees do not include uniform costs if required ($10 shorts & $15 jersey) – Grades 1-12 only See the fundraising section below for more information on offsetting these costs by participating in fundraising activities. How do I register? You can register at one of our live registration events (shown below) or you can download the form from our website at www.ayac.us , get a form from the school office or AD, or email ayacvpbb@gmail.com to get a copy emailed to you.
Live Registration Events at Batavia Township Park from 6:00-8:00pm
DO NOT RETURN YOUR REGISTRATION FORMS OR CHECKS TO THE SCHOOLS What is the registration deadline? Deadlines are different depending on the age of the player. CAYBL players in grade 3-6 are required to register by October 14th, 2011. All other players are required to register by November 11th, Late registration can occur between these dates and December 1st, 2011 but a $10 late fee will be added to the fees. How much does it cost to play? Fees are different depending on the grade of the player and league selection.
NBN Lil Hoopsters (K) Instructional League: $ 75.00 When and where do they practice and play games? Due to the failure of the West Clermont Levy all home games will be played at The Sphere (aka SportPlus). Here is a link to their website http://www.sportsplusohio.com/ Away games will be hosted and played at other CAYBL team facilities. See www.caybl.org for more information on participating teams and locations. CAYBL Games are typically schedule on Friday evenings between 6 and 9pm, Saturdays between 8am and 8pm or on Sundays between noon and 7pm. The schedule is determined by CAYBL officers. Requests to play or not play on certain days are permitted but no guarantees. NBN (Nothin’ but Net) Lil Hoopster and 1st/2nd Grade Leagues can be on a weeknight or weekend and are scheduled by the NBN owner. There will be a $25 per week allowance for practices given to all teams 1st-12th grade. Practice times can be scheduled once a week via the AYAC Basketball Facilities Coordinator at local churches and organizations at negotiated rates. If the team desires to practice more than 1 day per week they will need to pay for that time directly in addition to the fees collected by AYAC. Team fundraising can be done to pay for the additional practice times only if the commitments to AYAC sponsored fund raising has been met. CAYBL team practice times will be scheduled at the coaches meeting by the coach based on availability and their schedules. NBN Lil Hoopsters (K) will not have practice times. 1st and 2nd grade teams will be assigned practice times if open slots exist after CAYBL 3-12 Grade teams are scheduled. How many games do they play? Most of the leagues are 10 games and run from either Dec-Feb (CAYBL 3-6 grades) or Jan-Feb with tournaments the first week or two in March. CAYBL 4-6 grade Athletic league teams play 20 games between Dec-Feb with tournaments in March. Is there charge for admission to games? Each program or facility determines if there is admission to games. Home games for AYAC families at the Sphere will be covered with a Family Admission Pass and included in the fees. This card will not work for any other games. NBN I believe charges admission. Most other CAYBL programs charge admission as well. CAYBL sets the maximum rates for admission. You can find that on the CAYBL website at www.caybl.org. Is participation fundraising required? CAYBL will sponsor 2 fund raising activities this season to help offset the increased costs of participation. Shoot-A-Thon – preseason fund raiser to raise $20 or more per player via a sponsored Free Throw Shooting competition. Players get sponsored by family and friends and are paid a set amount per shot made. This money will go directly to offset league fees up to $20. Anything raised over that amount will go to help fund league operations and expenses. Raffle – end of season drawing for major electronics prize like a big screen HDTV or an IPAD. Each player will be asked to sell 10 (ten) one dollar ($1) tickets for the raffle. CAYBL will also have information on the raffle on our website and a way for people to purchase tickets as well as a table for selling tickets at home games. This money will go directly to offset league fees up to $10. Anything raised over that amount will go to help fund league operations and expenses. Do I need to purchase a uniform? CAYBL and NBN will require standard uniform jersey for all grades 1-12. The Lil hoopsters program will provide t-shirts to teams as part of the fees. AYAC provides a mechanism to order blue and white reversible jerseys with # on front and back. Also available are Blue shorts but they are optional and will be determined if needed by each individual coach. Cost of the Jersey is $15 and shorts if desired are $10. If you already have a uniform from last season or from an older sibling, as long as it does not create a duplicate number with another player on the same team and there are numbers on the front and back you can use it. What is the difference between Athletic and Recreation Leagues in CAYBL? Recreation leagues are formed by open registration and drafting/assignment of players to teams by the AYAC operations staff. These teams are NOT formed by having tryouts. The season is typically 10 games and a single elimination tournament at the end of the season (in March). Athletic leagues are formed by tryouts and special invitation by the individual coaches under the oversight of AYAC operations staff. The season is typically 20 games and a single elimination tournament at the end of the season (in March). These leagues and teams are much more competitive than the recreation league. Both the recreation and athletic leagues will have upper and lower divisions to allow for teams to be competitive. Typically teams that have played together for some time are in the upper division and newer formed teams or teams with lesser skilled players are in the lower division. Where do I find the Codes of Conduct for players, coaches and spectators (parents and family and friends)? There is a link to each of these Codes of Conduct on the www.caybl.org website. What if I want to volunteer to coach or assist with league operations? If that is the case, thank you very much for getting involved. You can contact the VP of basketball at the following email address if you are interested – ayacvpbb@gmail.com. There is also a space on the registration forms to designate if you want to coach. You will be required as a coach or league volunteer to complete an online background check performed by AYAC. Have a question not covered in this FAQ document?
